Happy August, everyone. We have an exciting month ahead of us. Sports are back. I turn 25 this month (oof). We have a lot of projects that will be making their debuts. There is a lot on tap for this month. Looking forward to getting all of this started. With that said, this is what came across my desk this week…

My Reading:

Atomic Habits by James Clear — This man is who I aspire to me. He is also not an academic and wasn’t an expert on habits in the beginning. He just did a lot of research and was able to break down complex ideas and make them manageable for everyone to understand. I am only about 1/4 of the way through the book, but I am learning a lot about changing my mindset on habits. I will give my full review once I am finished. I also highly recommend signing up for his email newsletter. One of the best newsletters I get.

Newsletters I subscribe to:

The Morning Brew — This is a must for anyone in the business world. They take super dry financial news and turn them into relatable pieces to keep the younger generation engaged and in the know. It takes a couple of minutes to read and comes to your inbox six days out of the week.

3–2–1 Thursday Newsletter — This is the James Clear newsletter I mentioned earlier. He does three ideas form himself, two from others, and one question to ponder. It’s super concise but very thought-provoking — a great way to start a Thursday.

5 Bulliet Friday — This is Tim Ferris’ newsletter. This man pumps out content like nobody else in the game. I mimic his newsletter-style for my “Across My Desk” week recap. The newsletter goes over everything that he posted that week and other things that he is reading, listening to, etc. The newsletter is a great way to get new, quality content that is worth taking a look at.

My Writing:

The Next Mountain: The Triathlon — I did my first swim this week, harder than I anticipated but eager to see improvements over the next eight weeks

How to Be Human: A Series — This is my most significant announcement and project for the next couple of months and, hopefully, a lot longer. I’ve had this calling to talk about human communication and how it relates to the world we live in. This series will debut here soon. Stay tuned.

The People of Zoom — This was a fun piece to write. I spend a stupid amount of time on Zoom calls. It’s entertaining to meet with people across the country on video calls. There are a lot of characters out there.

A third of the way through my writing challenge… kinda — This has proven to be much more difficult than I thought. I am using this challenge to figure out my writing voice and improve the content of my writing. I have a long way to go.

New Music Friday 7/31 — I love music. I also love sharing my music with others. Here are some songs that you won’t find on Billboard, but you will vibe to them for sure.

The Disgusting New Dating Trend: Wokefish — This article is in line with what will be the primary purpose of my blog moving forward. Post writing challenge, everything that I will write about will be about communication trends. Trends like this make my blood boil. You’ll see that as you read this one.

Music Spotlight

Playlist that I listen to while I write — Los Angeles Dreamin

Artist worth checking out — Omar Apollo — He has a really unique baseline in all of his songs that just makes them incredibly groovy. He puts on a solid live show that has a heavy rockstar style to it. It is different from his recorded records, but it makes for a more engaging live show. Something to look forward to :)

Let’s have a great week. It’s a new month if you had a bad July, time to shake it off and start fresh. Sports coming back has brought a renewed energy for me. It feels like we are on the cusp of beginning to get back to the way things were. It’s going to be a great month. Smile, and let’s get after it. Know that you are loved. See you tomorrow!
