The Disgusting New Dating Trend: “Wokefish”
The internet is an incredible place. Every morning you wake up and someone has coined a new term for some trend. Often these trends are incredibly stupid. Some I can get behind but for the most part, I sit there and shake my head. However, the internet does not care and continues to move forward full steam ahead.
The latest trend is called “Wokefish” or in verb form “Wokefishing.” The term was coined by writer Serena Smith. Wokefishing is when “People masquerade as holding progressive political views to ensnare potential partners,” Smith told Vice. The New York Post article continues, “Wokefishermen can be thought of like catfishers — those who use fake online personas to defraud victims — but only for sex instead of money.”
First off, eww. It’s disgusting how far people will go to hook up with other people. What happened to the old fashioned, take a girl out on a couple of dates and see what happens from there. Instead, let’s trick her into thinking that you are team Bernie, you only use paper straws, you guzzle kombucha, and you walk in every protest imaginable. Tell me how you think that’s going to work out when she comes over for the first time and you drive a Hummer, have a Trump flag in your room, and use plastic utensils for every meal. Good luck with that champ.
Let’s dive deeper into how disgusting that thought process is. First, you have convinced yourself that you aren’t able to get girls based on your own personality and beliefs alone. Second, you clearly don’t believe in any of the things that you are saying therefore taking away from the movement. Lastly, you have to use a series of lies and mischief just to get an opportunity to prey on some unsuspecting girl. Hey you, ya you, Fuck you.
I don’t need to go into any more detail as to why this is just incredibly stupid. But let’s get into it a little more cause why not. In this day and age, your personal brand and reputation mean everything. As everyone knows, you make one wrong move on the internet, and you are canceled. Just canceled. You don’t get to argue with any of these people it’s just over. So, the idea that you are just going blatantly put that all at risk just for an opportunity to coerce a girl into talking to you, is just fucking stupid. Aside from the fact that it is downright disgusting.

“Vice spoke with one 19-year-old who was unknowingly in a long-term relationship with a white supremacist. The distraught woman recounted how the sex swindler went from decrying the “whiteness of his education” to introducing her to his friends as “his dirty Arab girlfriend” during their six-month fling.”
Oof. This is disgusting on so many levels. This is the kind of stuff that just drives me insane. Why do we do this? Who thinks this is ok? I’m just going to lie to hear about everything. Call her names behind her back. I just can’t. These are the kind of people who deserve to be cold-cocked across the face.
So now you have some insight into what “Wokefishing” means. It’s gross. It’s disgusting. It needs to stop. Our goal as a human race should be to move forward as one. Find ways to create real lasting connections with one another. Maybe just take a girl on a couple of dates, tell her your opinions, and maybe just maybe she will appreciate you for that. Then you have a relationship that is built on trust and maybe even some compromise but at least you aren’t building a relationship on a bed of lies.
